The low-budget film Bad Boys was made by Michael Bay for only 19 million dollars as his first film in 1995. However, the film grossed 141 million USD in theaters, and thanks to this, Bay was given the opportunity to film the now iconic Rock (The Rock, 1996).
But the film was also a breakthrough for a star named Will Smith – the now famous actor was then rather an aging child star of the series Fresh Prince and was still waiting for another bigger, more prominent role. For both, the first film Bad Boys was a springboard to further careers and big-budget action blockbusters. And although it seems unbelievable today, the main attraction of the first film was the actor Martin Lawrence.
The second, under the unsurprising name Mizerové II (Bad Boy II), was shot again by Michael Bay, but the budget was already 130 million USD and the sales were 273 million. Which were nice numbers, but not overwhelming enough for Will Smith and Michael Bay to make room in their busy schedules to shoot a sequel. The “troika” under the name Mizerová forever went to cinemas only in 2020, directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. And paradoxically, the trio was the most successful – at a cost of 90 million, the worldwide sales were 426 million USD.
In a twist, the planned sequel was put on hold after Will Smith’s famous “Oscar” face. Only after the next round of apologies and repentance did the shooting begin. The fourth film with the official title Bad Boys Ride or Die filmed again by the same duo of directors Adil El Arbi, Bilall Fallah. But Will Smith is also counting on the success of the film, as his career has suffered considerable damage in recent years.
The main acting duo of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence remains the same, the screenwriter is also the same as for the trio, so the producers are betting on a successful and proven team. How Miserables: For life and death we’ll find out June 6, 2024when the movie goes to theaters.
