The company iSeeCars brought an interesting survey focused on how quickly cars lose their value. Through the analysis of the sale of 1.6 million cars on the American market, a ranking was compiled of cars with the fastest loss of value and, conversely, cars that lose their value the slowest.

It is a mix of different cars from different categories, but one trend is quite noticeable. While in the first case there are six electric cars among the ten worst cars, in the second group of cars (the slowest loss of value) there is not a single electric car.

Do you really want a new electric car?

According to a study published by the iSeeCars company on its official website, the electric Mercedes-Benz EQS is the absolute record holder in terms of loss of value. It lost 47.8% of its original price in just one year, which in terms of money is 65 thousand dollars, i.e. roughly 1.5 million crowns.

In second place came the Nissan Leaf (-45.7%), in third place is the Jaguar F-Pace (-35.4%), followed by the Alfa Romeo Giulia (-33.4%) and then comes the trio of electric cars Kia EV6 (-33 .3%), Hyundai Ioniq 5 (-32.9%) and Volkswagen ID.4 (-32.9%). Alfa Romeo Stelvio, Nissan Murano and Mercedes-Benz S-Class round out the top ten.

Although this is a survey conducted in America, and therefore something similar could come out a little differently in Europe, it points to a general problem with electric cars. Their development is moving forward quickly and cars age quickly. It is no exception that manufacturers do not have time to sell older versions and then discounts in the order of hundreds of thousands come, which of course will affect the residual price of very young used cars.

But the whole thing can be looked at positively. If you want an electric car and you don’t necessarily have a car straight from the factory, you just have to wait a while and you’ll save a lot of money, and as a result you’ll get a practically new car. You’ll just have to accept that there will likely be a newer version on the market by then that will be more powerful, charge faster, and have better range.

Who loses the least?

According to the same survey, at least in the American market, the Range Rover holds its price best, which even increased in price by 2.8% within one year. It is followed by Kia Rio (-0.1%) and Mercedes-Benz G-Class (-2.3%). Among the ten cars that hold their price best, there is no electric car, not even the domestic Tesla. It finished eleventh behind the tenth Kia Sportage Hybrid.
