“If two children are fighting on the sandpit. One fat, ugly, strong one will beat a smaller child, then we will help that child. But states are not children,” says SPD candidate for MEP Petr Mach, why should they play a role in the debate on aid to Ukraine interests rather than moral duty. According to him, the current support for a war-torn country encourages the continuation of the conflict and it should be about peace.

“If it continues in this way, Ukraine will be the first to run out of people, it will lose, and the result will be that Russia may advance to our borders. That’s why it makes sense for me to negotiate peace,” says the former MEP for Svobodná and current SPD candidate for the European parliament about why, according to him, the current Western aid to Ukraine only “pushes” the continuation of the war and does not lead to a solution.

One of the election slogans of the movement therefore reads “Money to the Czechs, not to Ukraine”. “If we deliver more weapons, then Ukraine simply won’t win back all the eastern territories, including Crimea,” Mach adds to the motto, saying that being President Zelensky will let Ukrainians vote on who wants to be part of Ukraine and who wants to be under Russia.

In the interview, Mach refers to war and migration as one of the biggest threats to the EU. He opposes the migration pact, which he perceives as forced solidarity, and he also condemns the Green Deal, which, according to him, is only causing the train to derail Europe. According to Mach, man’s influence on global warming is not clearly proven, and therefore he sees no reason to deal with it through regulations that are proposed at the level of the European Union.

“When most scientists thought that the sun revolved around the earth, that didn’t mean it was true either,” adds the SPD candidate.
