At the beginning of March, the Netflix streaming platform and the promoter group Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) officially announced their first-ever collaboration on a boxing gala, in which “The Problem Child” Jake Paul and the legendary American boxer “Iron” Mike Tyson will meet in the main duel. The match will be broadcast live worldwide exclusively on Netflix.
Fifty-seven-year-old American boxer Mike Tyson (50-6-0, 44 KOs) ended his highly successful professional career back in 2005, when Irish boxer Kevin McBride defeated him in six rounds. He returned to the ring in an exhibition match in November 2020, where he faced another legend, Roy Jones Jr., which ended in a draw.
On the other hand, 30 years younger Jake Paul (9-1-0, 6 KOs) boxed a total of three duels last year, of which he lost only once on points to British opponent Tommy Fury. He started this year with a quick win in the first round against compatriot Ryan Bourland.
Originally, the match was only supposed to be an exhibition due to the age of the legendary boxer. Eventually, the match was approved by the Texas authorities as an official professional boxing duel. Tyson thus receives a license at the age of 57. However, there will still be some concessions in the rules. Boxing will be done in 14-ounce gloves, and rounds will be shortened from three minutes to two. The result of the match will go to both actors in the official statistics.
