The third week of Donald Trump’s impeachment trial begins today in New York, with the questioning of the third witness, banker Gary Farr. According to the accusations, he collaborated with Trump’s lawyer at the time, Michael Cohen, on a scheme based on which the ex-president paid porn actress Stormy Daniels to remain silent.
Farro had already appeared briefly in court on Friday, testifying that Cohen was his client at First Republic Bank when the lawyer transferred $130,000 in “hush money” to porn actress Stormy Daniels’ lawyer days before the 2016 election.
According to the indictment, the purpose of this agreement was to protect Trump’s chances of becoming president in the election campaign, and Trump violated the law by doing so.
Trump is charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in that New York indictment. He denied all allegations, including that he had an extramarital sexual relationship with Stormy Daniels. She wrote a book about him including a detailed description of his genitalia to back up her claims.
According to legal experts, today’s hearing will be one of the least eventful, but potentially the most impactful, as it may shed light on the scheme at the heart of the indictment itself. Trump will be personally present again. (CBS)
