Alpine has confirmed the arrival of Ferrari’s former head of aerodynamics. He will work in a familiar environment. He started his F1 career at Enstone.

It’s a comeback for David Sanchez. He started at Enstone in 2005, but spent the key part of his career at Ferrari, where he made it all the way to head of aerodynamics.

He quit Maranello at the beginning of 2023 and started working at McLaren after a mandatory vacation. But in Woking they found that the situation had changed and they had no place for the French engineer. A month ago, Sanchez quit McLaren after just three months.

The Alpine team appointed Sanchez to the position of executive technical director. In the newly created role, he will oversee the technical department at Enstone and have overall responsibility for the team’s performance, engineering and aerodynamics areas.

Sanchez will lead three key areas that fall under the recently announced three-tier technical structure, reporting to Ciaron Pilbeam (Technical Director, Performance), Joe Burnell (Technical Director, Engineering) and David Wheater (Technical Director, Aerodynamics).

The Frenchman will join the team today and will report directly to team principal and Alpine Motorsports vice president Bruno Famino.

“I’m excited about this challenge at Alpine,” said Sanchez. “I am looking forward to working again at Enstone, where I started my Formula 1 career. There have always been many fantastic people working in this team and it is clear that there is a lot of potential that needs to be unleashed. We have a big task ahead of us to improve the performance on the track and it is this type of challenge that motivates me. I am fully ready to get started and look forward to further working with the technical teams at Enstone and Viry with the sole aim of returning regular success to this great team.”
