On Saturday morning, one person died and two others were injured in an accident involving two trucks and one passenger car on the D1 highway between Bohumín in Karvina and the Polish border. An air rescue helicopter was also on the scene. Traffic on the highway is stopped in the direction of Poland, informed the spokeswoman of the Moravian-Silesian Police, Eva Michalíková. Initially, the police said that two people died in the accident, but later corrected their information.

The accident happened after nine thirty in the morning. According to the available information, a tractor carrying a historic tank for a demonstration event in Karvinsko first stopped at the roadside, and a car stopped behind it. A truck with a semi-trailer, which was transporting cars, then crashed into the passenger car.

“We can confirm the death of one person and the serious injury of another,” said Michalíková. She later added that there were two injuries. Police will not release further information until next of kin have been notified.

The highway is closed in the direction of Poland. Traffic is controlled by the police. Detour routes lead through Bohumín or Polish Chalupki.
