STRAKONICE – World Hand Hygiene Day falls on May 5. The symbolism of the five fingers on each hand is clear. Since May 5th fell on a Sunday this year, the Strakonice Hospital decided to postpone the education in hand hygiene by one day. Today, Monday, May 6, the public has the opportunity to test whether they are washing their hands correctly at the hospital pharmacy in Katovická Street.
After washing their hands with an antibacterial disinfectant, those interested can see under a special UV lamp whether their hands are perfectly clean or if there are still any impurities.
What is the meaning of a seemingly obvious thing – hand washing? This daily common activity significantly helps in the prevention of many infectious diseases such as type A jaundice, Covid-19, influenza, salmonellosis.
According to the World Health Organization, up to 80 percent of infections are spread by dirty hands. Every day, people touch handles in public transport, shopping baskets, coins, door handles, in short, ordinary objects on the surface of which viruses and bacteria are found and multiply. Water and soap, or antibacterial gel, thus help to protect health.
