The police officers, who were also called to the case in addition to the ambulance, found out that it was not someone else’s fault. “There was nothing to investigate from our side, because it was not someone else’s fault,” police spokesman René Černohorský explained to iDNES.cz, adding that the police had closed the case.
“Two men were giving the girl first aid, massaging her and trying to clean vomit from her mouth after she fell unconscious,” the spokesperson said.
According to him, other people called the emergency lines. “The police secured the place, contacted the owner of the circus and the relatives of the fainted girl,” added Černohorský.
The performance in Kravařy started on April 25 at 5:00 p.m. and the accident happened during a break around 6:30 p.m., when people went out of the marquee to have refreshments.
However, all help was in vain and even the paramedics were unable to save the girl, and according to the Novinky.cz server, which was the first to report on the case, she died in the hospital in a few days.
According to Novinek, the girl was at a show with her grandmother, who bought her a hot dog, when a morsel lodged in her throat and she started choking. “Two passers-by tried to save them with the help of indirect heart massage. Other people called an ambulance,” Černohorský described the details.
An ambulance and a rescue helicopter also arrived at the scene. Paramedics discovered that there had been a circulatory arrest. “The girl was resuscitated and blood circulation was restored. In critical condition, the helicopter crew transported her to the Ostrava University Hospital,” ambulance spokesman Lukáš Humpl confirmed to Novinka. However, the girl died there after a few days.
According to Jan Pavlíček, head of the Department of Pediatrics at the Ostrava University Hospital, this is a very special event.
“In the overwhelming majority of cases, a child can be saved after inhaling a foreign body. The body that does not belong in the airways is removed using bronchoscopy and the patient then goes home fully recovered,” he said.
