Prague – The Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ) will today publish data on the March development of industrial and construction production and foreign trade. In February, industry and construction grew year-on-year after several months of decline, and foreign trade ended in a significantly larger surplus than analysts had expected.
According to the CZSO, industry increased year-on-year in February by 0.7 percent, compared to January it improved by 1.9 percent. But analysts pointed out that its total production would have declined year-on-year without the influence of the automotive industry.
In the construction industry, the CZSO recorded a year-on-year increase in production of 3.6 percent, according to him, it was 4.8 percent higher month-on-month. The industry was driven up by engineering constructions, i.e. transport financed by public investments. On the contrary, building construction, which includes the construction of houses, fell. According to analysts and experts contacted by ČTK, the February growth in the construction industry was not a sign of improvement in the housing market. The data could also be distorted by a comparison with low values a year ago, they pointed out.
The foreign trade of the Czech Republic ended in a surplus of 34.6 billion crowns in February, which was 19.7 billion higher year-on-year. “For the first two months of this year, the surplus is almost twice as high as last year,” said Raiffeisenbank analyst Martin Kron. According to experts, exports and imports have woken up.
