Counterintelligence and SBU investigators foiled plans by the Russian FSB to assassinate the President of Ukraine and other representatives of the country’s top military and political leadership. The SBU announced this on its website.

“The plans were implemented by an agent network that was revealed in advance by the Security Service of Ukraine with the assistance of the State Security leadership. Two UDO colonels (of the Ministry of State Security, note ed.)” wrote the SBU.

Russia’s FSB was actively developing plans to remove President Volodymyr Zelensky. “One of the tasks of the FSB intelligence network was to look for military personnel close to the president’s protection who could take the head of state hostage and later kill her,” outlines the Russian counterintelligence plan.

In addition to President Zelensky, the head of the Security Service of Ukraine Vasyl Malyuk, the head of GUR Kyrylo Budanov and other high-ranking officials were to be eliminated.

A recruited agent from the Ukrainian side was supposed to observe the movements of the guarded person and pass information to the FSB. According to the coordinates of the house where the person was supposed to be, a rocket attack followed by a drone attack against the people still alive in the place was to be carried out.

Armament for the agent was provided by Colonel UDO, who personally brought FPV drones, RPG-7 charges and MON-90 anti-personnel mines to Kyiv. However, the SBU monitored his travels around Ukraine for drones and explosives, as well as the conversations of the potential perpetrator of the terrorist attack with the “curator” from the FSB.

Gradually, it was possible to document all their activities and arrest them. “A limited number of people knew about our special operation, and I personally followed its progress. The terrorist attack, which was supposed to be a gift to Putin before the inauguration, was actually a failure of the Russian special services. But we must not forget – the enemy is strong and experienced, he cannot be underestimated. We will continue to work ahead of time so that every traitor will receive the deserved court sentences,” said SBU head Vasyl Malyuk.

All involved face up to life imprisonment.
