The tragic course of the entire Saturday accident on the D1 highway in the direction of Poland began to spread on the Ostrava Facebook group. The 16-second clip shows a tractor-trailer carrying a tank in the right lane together with a passenger car, which the truck crashed into a few seconds later. The leak of a screen-recording video will be investigated by the police. “We are now dealing with the whole matter,” said police spokeswoman Pavla Jiroušková.

This is not the first leaked video of a tragic accident in the last year. Last summer, a tram collided with a cyclist at the Dubina tram stop in Ostrava, who did not survive the accident. According to the subsequent investigation, the police came to the conclusion that the video was leaked by an employee of the Ostrava Municipal Police. According to police spokesman Jindřich Mach, it was not a system failure, but an individual error.

The accident in the Karvinska region occurred on Saturday, May 4, 2024, in the morning hours on the D1 highway at kilometer 376.5 in the direction of Poland. The highway was closed all day, traffic was only restored in the evening. The driver of the passenger vehicle did not survive the impact, the passenger was airlifted to hospital by helicopter. The truck driver was handed over to paramedics.

After investigating the accident, the police brought charges against the driver of the truck from Lithuania, who, according to the information found, apparently did not pay attention to driving and crashed into a stationary passenger vehicle without any braking distance. personal injury due to negligence.
