The Karel Havlíček Borovský award is intended for the author of exceptionally socially beneficial texts, whether of an investigative or analytical nature. “Journalism is always a collaboration. Thank you to everyone who accompanied me on this adventurous journey at various stages. Last but not least, I thank Czech Radio for a safe harbor that always stands for quality and is not afraid to experiment. I appreciate it very much,” said Josef Pazderka.

For the first time, the Daniel Anýž Award for foreign reporting was awarded as part of the Journalism Award. Jan Fingerland won it, among other things, for his thorough analyzes and putting phenomena and events into comprehensible contexts. “I try to write with distance and perspective, but at the same time not to lose interest and immersion in my topics,” said Jan Fingerland.

The journalist prize in the Audiovisual interview or discussion category was again won by Josef Pazderka, this time together with Ondřej Soukup for the contribution Requiem for Donbas or How an industrial region with a diverse mixture of peculiar population disappears before our eyes (link is external) from the podcast Na Východ! The Czech Radio Plus podcast focuses on the post-Soviet space and will be published from October 2023. It offers listeners the context of current events, while also revealing hidden connections and behind-the-scenes views that are not covered in regular news coverage.

Josef Pazderka he studied history at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague and also completed development studies at Oxford Brookes University of Oxford in Great Britain. After completing his university studies, he worked for the humanitarian organization People in Need in Russia and Africa. From 2005, he worked in the foreign newsroom of Czech Television, among other things as a permanent correspondent in Moscow and then in Warsaw. In 2013-2015, he also intensively covered the crisis in Ukraine. Since November 2016, he has been the deputy editor-in-chief of the online daily Aktuálně.cz. From April 2018 to August 2022, he led this news website. From autumn 2022, he is the editor-in-chief of the Czech Radio Plus station. Josef Pazderka is the holder of four prestigious Journalism Awards for reports from Beslan in North Ossetia, famine-stricken Somalia or for comments on Russia. He is the editor and co-author of the book Invaze 1968. The Russian View, which was published in Czech, Polish, Russian, and English and is included in the prestigious The Harvard Cold War Studies Book Series at Harvard University in the USA.

Jan Fingerland he studied political science at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University, where he subsequently lectured for several years. Gradually, however, he was attracted to the world of journalism, and he gained his first experience with newspapers in Večerník Praha. In addition to political science, he was also interested in political philosophy and religious studies, which he studied during his studies in York, Stockholm and Jerusalem. He also gained work experience as a foreign news editor for Czech Television. Externally, he contributed longer texts to Czech dailies and weeklies, especially Mladá fronta Dnes, Lidové noviny and Reflex. He has been working at Czech Radio Plus since 2008 and is also in charge of preparing the program Opinions and arguments. In it, he not only covers political topics, but is also the author of contributions from culture, history and religion. Jan Fingerland is the recipient of the Ferdinand Peroutka Award. In 2022, he published a first literary work called Hebrews: Biblical Mothers, Demons, Queens and Lovers, which focused on the stories of biblical women in a disadvantaged position, conceived from different interpretive perspectives.
