“Jirka is depressed about it, he didn’t even really enjoy the result from Madrid,” explains Navrátil. “It is not a minor injury, we are dealing with it with Professor Kolář and his team, the treatment is taking place at his place. It will depend on how quickly Jirko’s body reacts to her.”

The 22-year-old Lehečka already had problems with his back after the March tournament in Miami, because of which he missed the following events in Monte Carlo and Barcelona. However, in Madrid he played and presented himself with excellent performances, beating, for example, the legendary Rafael Nadal.

But with the increasing load, the difficulties began to echo again and exactly a week ago they completely stopped him in the fight for the final. The Czech tennis player gave up the match with the Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassim at 3:3 in the first set, it was obvious from his movements and the expression on his face that he was in great pain.

He subsequently underwent an examination in the Czech Republic, which revealed serious problems. And although he has been ranked 23rd in the world rankings since Monday, equaling his career high, he is currently dealing with other concerns.

“It is in the stars how quickly he will recover,” realizes Navrátil. “He will go for control magnetic resonance imaging after a fortnight, and wait for the fracture to heal and heal.”

Lehečka and coach Navrátil after winning the title at the January tournament in Adelaide:

“The worst part is that it has to be on sleep mode. He can’t ride a bike, he can’t swim, nothing like that. Jirka is already such a professional that he can quickly adapt and adjust to game mode, but this is a more complicated case in that he is not allowed to do physical things. The comeback will then be all the more complicated.”

In addition, the injury affected Lehečka at a time when the key phase of the season is coming. The second Grand Slam of the year, Roland Garros, will start in Paris on Sunday, May 26, Wimbledon will start on July 1, and the Olympic Games will follow shortly after.

“I don’t want to predict anything, I don’t know how the treatment will develop,” replies the tennis player’s coach on a possible return date. “We definitely can’t make it to Roland Garros, which is very disappointing. We will want to fight for Wimbledon, but it depends how the situation develops. Even if Jirka were to recover as soon as possible, the question is how much time would we even have for preparation. Today we are already at a level where you cannot do things lightly and amateurishly. Wimbledon will be with a big question mark.”
