As informed by the city management of Svit on the social network, around four o’clock in the afternoon, citizens reported the movement of a brown bear on the bicycle path at the intersection of Hviezdoslavova and Štefánikova streets.

The meeting with the bear also happened later, under more dramatic circumstances. “At 8:15 p.m., a citizen clashed with a bear in the locality near the city cemetery. The person in question managed to climb over the fence of the cemetery and for this reason there was no direct contact or injury to the person,” said the city management.

On Tuesday around six o’clock in the morning, the movement of a bear was reported in Svit on Jilemnického street in the Zenit locality. “A female bear with two cubs was seen here,” stated the city management, which immediately called the emergency team. The town hall did not say whether it was the same animal as the day before.

The city asked for the cooperation of the police and the brown bear response team. “Police officers are carrying out increased patrolling in the locality in question. The city of Svit has asked the Poprad District Office, Department of the Environment, for an exception for the elimination of the brown bear,” the city management added.
