“National Rape Day” is trending on TikTok. Don’t be a part of it, the police are asking

--

A trend on the social network TikTok has scared German politicians and the police. Information is circulating on the social network that April 24 is a national day in which sexual harassment of women and girls is not punished in any way. The rather bizarre information was sharply denied by the Berlin police on their social networks. She assured that this is nonsense and a dangerous rumor, writes the German newspaper Bild.

Information circulating on the social network TikTok, according to which Thursday is National Rape Day, should have sparked the uproar. The fictitious “holiday” led to the fact that Berlin senator Katharina Günther-Wünsch sent hundreds of schools with a warning, but according to Bild, teachers and some students often learned about the situation from her for the first time.

The Berlin police strongly objected to the circulation of information on social networks. “This rumor is not only false and dangerous, but also disturbing in every way. Please do not participate,” the Berlin police said on their Instagram. According to Bild, Berlin Senator Günther-Wünsch decided to issue a warning because of the information she received from the schools.

According to the senator’s office, however, there is no information available yet on whether there have been any specific incidents. The warning to the schools was also appreciated by the opposition, according to which the provision of information was for the sake of preventive measures.
