Andrej Danko “repentantly” cleaned the streets of Bratislava

--

“I’m from the village, so it doesn’t bother me, and I had a broom in my hand last week, for example,” said Danko in a good mood. He enjoyed a lot of media attention.

“Thank God I didn’t hurt anyone in that accident. I damaged a traffic light, which is paid for, and I will pay a fine of 900 euros (22,600 crowns, editor’s note). I believe I don’t have to jump into the Danube. Today I came to voluntarily clean Dúbravka, because I also live here,” he added. The deputy speaker of the parliament for the ruling Slovak National Party then took a broom and started cleaning.

Danko ran into a traffic light in early January and fled the scene. He submitted to a breathalyzer test only 15 hours after the accident. He explained that he had broken a tooth in the impact and had to go to the dentist first. “He was questioned and breathalyzed, with a negative result,” police said the day after the accident.

The director of the Center for the Treatment of Drug Addictions in Bratislava, Ľubomír Okruhlica, did not want to comment on the case, but in general he confirmed that an average of about 0.2 per mil per hour evaporates from the body. “If a person had two parts per million of alcohol in him, that is already on the border of severe drunkenness, so in ten hours he will have a zero breathalyzer test,” said Okruhlica.

The opposition called on Danko to resign as deputy speaker of the parliament. The Chairman of Progressive Slovakia, Michal Šimečka, emphasized that the constitutional officer must set an example for the citizens. Not only did Danko not resign from the position of deputy speaker of the parliament, but this year he even ran for president in the presidential elections, only to resign just before the first round in favor of Štefan Harabin, who then finished in third place and did not advance to the decisive second round.
