Are tanks dead on the modern battlefield? No wonder – they adapt. One of the theses that spread especially at the beginning of the Russian invasion was that tanks are already a relic, because they are being destroyed by the hundreds by the latest anti-tank weapons, which were later joined by kamikaze drones.

The numbers at first glance support this argument. Since the beginning of the invasion, the Russian and Ukrainian armies have lost more than two and a half thousand tanks. Significantly more than a thousand others were captured or damaged by one of the parties.

Nevertheless, tanks are irreplaceable in many ways. Engineers on both sides are therefore working on solutions to better protect them. In today’s part, we will focus on the way they are trying to do this in Russia. One of the modifications is field improvisation, the other two are the result of thoughtful work by designers directly at the manufacturer. According to the testimony of Ukrainians from the battlefield, at least two of the three modifications work and cause problems, although each in a different way.
