BIDEN VS. TRUMP

US President Joe Biden joked about his supposed opponent in the autumn elections, Donald Trump, at a dinner organized by the correspondents’ association at the White House on Saturday, but he also tried to portray him as a threat to democracy. This time, the traditional event was accompanied by protests against American support for Israel in its war with the Palestinian movement Hamas, the media reported.

Biden, who is the oldest president in US history, also sought to point out Trump’s immaturity at the dinner and downplay concerns about his advanced age. “The election is in full swing and yes, age is an issue. I’m a grown man running against a six-year-old,” he declared. Biden is now 81 years old, Trump is four years younger.

Trump did not attend the dinner, but responded to the event on his social network Truth Social, where he called it “really bad.” “Crooked Joe was a total disaster,” he wrote to the current president.

Biden also poked fun at Trump’s legal troubles. “Donald has had a rough couple of days lately. You could call it stormy weather,” he said. He was referring to the case surrounding porn actress Stephanie Clifford, also known as Stormy Daniels. The English word stormy means stormy in Czech.

He reminded the current court in New York, which is dealing with a case related to Trump’s first election campaign in 2016, when his lawyer paid a porn actress $130,000 (over three million CZK) in an attempt to cover up her claim that she had an affair with Trump about ten years earlier romance. According to prosecutors, Trump falsified dozens of financial records when he returned the money to his lawyer after he was elected.

Nearly three thousand guests arrived at the dinner, which was held at the Washington Hilton Hotel. In addition to politicians and journalists, there were also various celebrities among them, such as actress Scarlett Johansson.
