Prague – At the request of the insolvency administrator of the bankrupt Sberbank, Jiřina Lužová, the Municipal Court in Prague extended the deadline for the payment of creditors by another 30 days, i.e. until June 14 inclusive. According to her, the reason is the high number of creditors who have not yet been paid. This follows from the information published in the insolvency register. The payment started on March 18, the original deadline was April 15. Then the court allowed its extension until May 15.

The administrator justified the proposal by saying that about 8,400 creditors out of a total number of more than 15,300 have so far applied for the payment of a partial schedule, so that over 45 percent of creditors have not applied for it. Out of the sum of 56.8 billion crowns, 52.8 billion crowns were paid.

In order to make the payment more efficient, the trustee contacted the creditors via e-mails, text messages, letters or by phone. “He is still continuing this activity and plans to continue to do so in order to pay as many creditors as possible within the partial schedule,” she said in the proposal.

Payout requires an active approach from creditors, they must submit documents to verify their identity and make the payment. Natural persons can come to any branch of Komerční banka to process the payment. Legal entities must go to Komerční banka’s corporate centers or they can contact their corporate banker directly. An online application can be submitted in the case of payment up to a maximum of 100,000 crowns.

According to the administrator, the high share of unpaid creditors is due to the total number of creditors and their structure, where the absolute majority of creditors have claims of less than 1,000 crowns. A number of creditors are also from abroad, for whom it can be difficult to obtain documents for the identification of the creditor and verification of the identity of the real owner within the deadline, he thinks. According to Komerční banka spokesperson Šárka Nevoralá, there are no complications with the payment. Most lenders request a payday in person at a branch.

The Prague Municipal Court declared bankruptcy on Sberbank CZ at the end of August last year after the Czech National Bank legally revoked its banking license at the beginning of May. Steps to revoke the license were initiated by the CNB on February 28, 2022. The reason was the deterioration of the situation of Sberbank CZ due to the outflow of deposits after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
