The new Lancia Ypsilon already has an internal combustion engine. It is much cheaper than an electric car

The new Lancia Ypsilon is also getting an internal combustion engine. It won’t surprise you with technology, but it will be more than enough for everyday life in cities.

At the beginning of this year, the global concern Stellantis finally decided to officially rebirth the Italian Lancia. The first model of the famous Italian brand, which after many years returns to the entire European market, is the new generation of the smallest Ypsilon model. It follows on from the only surviving small city model of the car manufacturer of the modern era and is a sibling of the French Peugeot 208. And the domestic market in Italy now presents an expanded range of engines.

The new Lancia Ypsilon first came to the world as the brand’s first ever electric car. It is based on the electric Peugeot e-208 and has the only available drive configuration with a 115 kW electric motor, a high-voltage battery with a usable capacity of 51 kWh and front-wheel drive. However, the Italian brand has kept potential customers waiting for the more traditional combustion version, which it is putting on sale only now.

The mild-hybrid Lancia Ypsilon with the company’s turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder with 48-volt electrification is just starting to go on sale in Italy. The standard is a maximum power of 74 kW (101 hp) and the small twelve-hundredth is connected to the new six-speed dual-clutch transmission e-DCT, which is gradually entering the cars of other brands of the Stellantis concern and is gradually replacing the 1.2 PureTech internal combustion engine.

The new Ypsilon is now sold with two different engines. The “100” three-cylinder may seem weak, but we can already approximately expect how it will drive. The facelifted Opel Corsa, which we recently introduced to you in our editorial test, has the same engine. The internal combustion Ypsilon then accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.3 seconds and develops a top speed of 190 km/h.

The Italians are starting to sell the new internal combustion “Ypsilon” in three trims, and wireless connectivity of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto mobile services, parking sensors or a basic package of advanced ADAS assistance systems will be standard on all manufactured cars. Intermediate equipment adds to this, for example, a wireless mobile phone charger, front and rear cameras, adaptive cruise control or a driving mode selector.

The highlight of the combustion model will be the Edizione Cassina version, developed in cooperation with the Italian luxury furniture manufacturer. Along with a more luxurious interior, it also has two 10.25″ displays for the virtual cockpit and infotainment, two cameras with a 180-degree field of view or a full-fledged package of ADAS assistants with support for level 2 autonomous driving.

The novelty will then be sold in six colors – Grigio Granito, Nero Ardesia, Bianco Marmo, Blu Lancia, Verde Giada, and Oro. All are inspired by Italian materials and will also be available in a two-tone design with a contrasting black roof.

The new Lancia Ypsilon with a mild-hybrid 1200 starts to be sold in Italy at a significantly lower price than the electric version. The official price list starts at 24,900 euros, which is approximately 625,000 crowns at today’s exchange rate. Just a reminder that Ypsilon batteries cost a million.
