Costume designer Irena Greifová (†83), who died a year and a half ago, had it with her first husband Karl Greif Sr. Then she married Josef Laufer, with whom she lived for 52 years. They had a daughter Ester (54) together, and Karel, who was six years older, grew up with her as a half-brother.
They lived together
For decades the family lived under one roof, but Karl’s name is surprisingly not mentioned among the survivors. “I really liked Pepík. I wish him a happy journey,” said Lightning Laufer’s stepson. “I really don’t want to comment on that anymore,” he added conciliatoryly.

In 2020, Greif made a documentary about his mother Irena Costumes: Irena Greifová. His mom “dressed” such film blockbusters as, for example, Night in Karlštejn, Světáci, Mysterious Castle in the Carpathians whose Three veterans. In the documentary, which he not only directed, but also wrote the script for, he appeared alongside Iva Janžurová (82), Jiří Bartoška (77), Jana Preissová (76) and other stars, of course also Josef Laufer. And you could see that there was complete harmony between them.
Last way
The funeral is to take place in the next few days. Ester Laufer organized it very quickly considering that her father breathed his last on Saturday night and some mourners will be arriving from abroad. This is evidenced by other names on the parte, such as Beatriz, Francisco or Luisa… In what relation are they to the deceased, but it is not stated on the obituary.
For her last farewell, she chose the same Prague crematorium where in December 2022 family and celebrities saw off her mother Irena on her last journey. Only there will probably be a lot less guests. Only a handful of the closest are invited, and not all, as it turns out…
