Met Gala and bizarre looks from past years

--

The Met Gala is one of the most important fashion events of the year and is under the thumb of the editor-in-chief of the American edition of Vogue magazine Anna Wintour. The gala evening takes place every year on the first Monday in May, and at the same time the exhibition of the Costume Institute, whose coffers flow from the Met Gala, also opens. Last year it was a record 22 million dollars, which is more than half a billion crowns.

A ticket for almost 2 million

Tickets for the exclusive event are getting more expensive every year and this year, according to The New York Times, they cost $75,000 (approx. 1,760,000 crowns), prices for the entire table start at $350,000 (over 8 million crowns). But even that can’t be paid for and cast by anyone – Anna Wintour must first personally approve each attendee of the evening, which leads to the annual speculation as to whether they will be allowed to the event The Kardashians and which of them eventually get the green light.

This year’s theme? Garden of Time

Guests must also reflect on the dress code and theme, which is announced months in advance. The stars, together with their stylists and designers, decide long in advance how they will handle the task and what they will wear on the carpet, which changes colors every year. While last year’s edition paid tribute to the work of the late designer Karl Lagerfeld, this year’s key slogan is “Garden of Time”. Thematically, it corresponds with the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, which is called Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion and covers more than 400 years of fashion history. The exhibition is to be concentrated in three zones, which will represent the earth, the sea and the sky.

The craziest looks from years past

The Met Gala tends to be full of eccentric models and there really is no room for modesty. Most of the stars stick to the motto “go big or go home” or “if it happens, then it happens” and wear spectacular dresses from renowned designers. And as you can imagine, sometimes it goes a little overboard. Which VIPs wore the most extravagant outfits? Kim Kardashian, MadonnaKaty Perry, but also Lady Gaga or Jared Leto.
