The deputies decided on this yesterday, when they sent the amendment to the Labor Code to the second reading. “With this proposal, we will avoid years of undignified debates. There were years when the minimum wage did not increase, or it increased minimally,” explained Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Marian Jurečka (KDU-ČSL) for the introduction of an automatic mechanism, according to which the minimum wage is supposed to increase.
“However, the mechanism is very slow,” ANO MP Aleš Juchelka criticized it. He pointed out that, according to him, 50 percent of the average wage is enshrined in the directive of the European Commission, which demands an increase in the minimum wage.

In the proposal, the trade unions mainly criticize the abolition of guaranteed wage levels in the private sector. In the public one, their number would be reduced from eight to four. According to trade unionists, this will lead to wages falling or rising slowly. “The increase in the minimum wage will put quite a lot of pressure on the growth of earnings,” Jurečka rejected it.
MP Jana Pastuchová (ANO) criticized the fact that, according to some information, ODS MPs want to submit an amendment to the amendment that would introduce the possibility of dismissal without giving a reason. Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) also supports this. Minister Jurečka is preparing another amendment to the Labor Code, in which, however, he refused to include dismissal without reason.
The proposal of the opposition to return the amendment for revision did not pass in the end, the proposal will now be discussed by the social committee.
