“Over the course of four days, we examined the most people interested in prevention, but unfortunately the number of detected tumors was also a record,” said Petr Arenberger, head of the Dermatovenerology Clinic of the 3rd Medical Faculty of the UK and the University Hospital of Královská Vinohrady, regarding the results of the event.
“Fortunately, the vast majority of diagnosed skin tumors were in the initial stage, i.e. with a high chance of a complete cure after a simple excision,” added Monika Arenbergerová from the same clinic.
Skin cancer is on the rise
According to experts, skin cancer continues to increase, in 2040 it may be the most common cancer in men and second only to breast cancer in women. It is currently in fifth place among women and eighth among men. In 2022, the latest data available, about 2,800 people were newly diagnosed with melanoma and another 800 with pre-malignant skin cancer.

According to experts, people who have pigment marks on their body should have them regularly examined by a dermatologist. Some health insurance companies fully cover them for their insured, others contribute to them retroactively from the prevention fund.
During the preventive campaigns that take place regularly in April and May, these examinations are free. 2,186 people visited the Melanoma Tent in Prague, 1,011 in Brno and 622 in Ostrava.
In May, the Together Against Melanoma event, organized by the Czech Industrial Insurance Company, will take place. They will start on May 13 in Opava and will gradually head to Zlín, Prostějov, Olomouc, Liberec, Kladno, Pilsen, Znojmo, Jihlava, České Budějovice, Písek, Třinec, Havířov, Frýdek-Místek and on June 6 to Ostrava.
