--

The successful sports division of Volkswagen announces that it wants to be an independent brand and the first step is to open a special showroom in Autostadt.

The Volkswagen R sports division was born in 2002, when the German brand from Wolfsburg officially introduced the Volkswagen Golf R32. The most powerful and fastest Golf of the popular fourth generation subsequently evolved into a whole series of sports models, which in today’s portfolio of the car company are represented by cars such as the Golf R, Arteon R, Tiguan R, Touareg R or T-Roc R. And today the Volkswagen R division officially announces that wants to become an independent brand.

The first step towards “independence” will be the opening of a unique presentation for the Volkswagen R in the Autostadt, the sanctuary, museum and amusement park of the Volkswagen Group concern in Wolfsburg. Along with the first announcement of the upcoming Volkswagen R exhibition, Volkswagen also reveals that the main focus of the new brand will be fast electric sports cars.

At the Autostadt, the Volkswagen R will present an illuminated exhibition with an area of approximately 100 square meters for the brand’s sports models or technologies, and there will even be a special lounge available. There, motorsport enthusiasts will be able to compete virtually with professionals on racing simulators.

Sports Volkswagen enthusiasts will be able to see standard production models, special editions and concepts of future cars there. Today, the latest expected addition will be the facelifted Golf R, which was first shown in development camouflage shortly after the facelifted model’s official debut earlier this year.

Volkswagen wants to support the growing community with a new pavilion for fans of “eR” models, and along with press presentations and unveiling of new vehicles, it also wants to attract the “Friends of R” enthusiast community or organize “R & Coffee” fan meetings there.

Volkswagen R currently sells five performance models and has had a record year – in 2023, the automaker has sold more than 35,000 of these sports cars. Since the foundation of the division in 2002, there are already more than 300,000 of them. And when will the new special Volkswagen R pavilion in the Autostadt open? Already this summer.
