The new Mazda 6 with rear-wheel drive is here! It is electric and has an incinerator

The new Mazda EZ-6 electric sedan is introduced in China. It has an electric motor on the rear wheels and will also be available with an internal combustion engine, functioning only as a range extender.

Today’s Mazda 6 is slowly disappearing from global markets and will officially disappear from the Czech Republic soon. It has already “farewelled” us with the stylish special edition 20th Anniversary Edition, and the Japanese car manufacturer from Hiroshima is unfortunately silent on the future of the model. Larger SUVs have been booming in recent years, and Mazda has just unveiled the new CX-80 flagship, which is a stretched seven-seater variant of the biggest Mazda CX-60 to date.

Mazda is inspired by the German BMW and wants to be a more premium car company. And already in the past there was information about the alleged future debut of the successor to the Mazda 6, which would be a new competition for the Munich three/five. It could be based on the brand’s most modern platform with a longitudinally mounted engine and preference for rear-wheel drive. However, the automaker itself does not comment on these speculations.

And now the new “Mazda 6” has been rebuilt in China, which partially reflects the speculations of brand lovers. Officially called the Mazda EZ-6, it’s an electric sedan that will also be available as a plug-in hybrid. The novelty was created in cooperation with the Chinese car manufacturer Changan, it is based on the traditional design language of the Kodo brand and is said to be based on the Chinese sedan Changan Shenlan SL03.

The model’s standard is an electric drive with an electric motor on the rear wheels, which is complemented by a hybrid variant with a range-extender for charging the high-voltage battery while driving. However, Mazda did not use its wankel 8C, developed as a range extender for the MX-30 electric car, but under the hood is a gasoline four-cylinder 15-liter.

The automaker has not yet released detailed technical specifications, but it states that the standard Mazda EZ-6 will travel up to 600 kilometers per charge in the Chinese CLTC cycle. With the range-extender under the hood, the maximum range is extended to 1,000 kilometers. That’s a solid distance. The rear axle with multi-link suspension complements the rear wheel drive.

The new Mazda EZ-6 is being presented to the public for the first time at the Beijing Auto Show and will most likely never leave the Chinese market. So if you’re anticipating a future reveal of a rear-wheel-drive Mazda 6, you still have to keep hoping.
