Microsoft has a problem. Interest in Windows 11 is declining

--

At the same time, last year, the popularity of Windows 10 practically continuously declined. From October’s 69.31%, the tens weakened to 68.02% in November, in December the share was 67.42%. In January this year, it was only 66.47%.

But then came a surprising turning point. In February, the share increased to 67.26%, and according to the most recently published data, the tens continued to grow in March, when their share reached 69.07%.

In the third month of this year, on the contrary, the elevens weakened, when they fell from 28.16% to 26.68%. They currently rank second in the statistics. Except for a small stumble at the end of last year, when the share of Windows 11 fell from 26.63% in November to 26.54%, the popularity of the latest platform from Microsoft was growing.

No updates

If the popularity of tens continues to grow in the coming months at the expense of Windows 11, it would be a big problem for Microsoft. The end of support for Windows 10 is coming unstoppably, so the American software giant needs as many people as possible to start using its latest platform – that is, eleven.

According to Microsoft’s official schedule, the end of support for Windows 10 is scheduled for October 14, 2025. This applies to the latest version 22H2, which was released in the fall of 2022. Dozens of older, non-updated versions have already lost support in previous years.

“From this date, Microsoft will stop providing security updates and technical support for Windows 10. Your computer will still work, but we recommend upgrading to Windows 11,” the American software giant warned its users.

As early as next autumn, dozens will face the same fate as Windows 7 or Windows 8 a few years ago. The end of support by Microsoft means that no further updates will be released for the given platform.

Security gamble

Using Windows 7 or 8 is therefore, without exaggeration, a security hazard at the moment. The end of support is related not only to system improvements, but also to security. Therefore, if a security breach is discovered in sevens or eights, users are exposed to the risk of being exploited by computer pirates.

Even the best anti-virus system cannot completely protect users on an unsupported system. When the problem is directly in the operating system, it will be relatively difficult or impossible to protect against some types of attacks through antivirus tools.

A suitable solution from a security point of view is to install a newer operating system. Alternatively, switch to a competitive alternative. And this will also apply to Windows 10 starting next year.

For the sake of completeness, let’s add that the trefoil of the most popular systems from Microsoft is currently closed by Windows 7. However, the share of sevens reached only 3.04% last month.
