Stellantis can also put internal combustion engines in new electric cars, if there is interest

Although the automaker focuses primarily on purely electric cars, the new flexible platform will also allow the installation of internal combustion engines, if there is interest in them among customers.

In an interview with WardsAuto, the company’s CFO Natalie Knight said that the new platforms used for the production of electric cars offer extraordinary flexibility when it comes to powertrains. Therefore, if there was an extremely strong demand for an internal combustion engine for an electric model, Stellantis can theoretically build such a car.

The Dodge Charger will also be built on the new platform, available as a coupe and a sedan with an electric motor and a V6 engine.

“I don’t want to ignore the fact that we want to stay close to customers, and if we see that there is an opportunity with the models that we introduced as BEVs first, we will look at it,” WardsAuto quoted her as saying. Battery-powered electric vehicles are designated by the abbreviation BEV.

New platforms from the STLA family are already appearing in upcoming Jeep or Dodge models. With the new Dodge Charger model, the brand promises both a purely electric drive and an internal combustion engine.

At the same time, flexibility in the area of power unit construction will allow the company to better respond to changes in the area of demand and the market, when in recent months we have observed a decline in demand for electric cars overseas.

The new Dodge Charger arrives as a sedan and coupe, will offer an electric motor and a six-cylinder engine
