For Europeans, it is crucial, among other things, how the republican candidate will stand up to joint defense in the North Atlantic Alliance or to aggression against Ukraine. Both as president and then even after leaving office in 2021, he was very scornful of Moscow and criticized Kyiv. Under his influence, for example, Republicans in Congress refused to approve aid to Ukraine in the amount of approximately 60 billion dollars, despite the fact that it absolutely needed it against the Russian influence.
In recent days, however, Trump has moderated criticism of military support for Ukraine. “Ukraine growing and being strong should be much more important for Europe than for us. But it’s also for us!” he said. And it is the first time since the Russian invasion of 2022 that he has supported the Ukrainians in this way.
