Unfortunately, this situation keeps repeating itself. Surprisingly cheap butter suddenly enters Czech stores. Subsequently, it is presented in all possible discount flyers, and customers are understandably hooked. Why wouldn’t they buy a product at fifty percent off, especially when it doesn’t come around that often, right?

Stores are trying it

Unfortunately, the incomparable is being compared here, which, of course, well-established retail chains won’t tell you. And not only customers, but also domestic butter producers pay extra for this. Their product looks overpriced next to the discounted one. Then the chains can point the finger at the farmers and say they are to blame for the high food prices, while the stores try to secure the best possible prices.

But the whole thing is one big sham. Significantly discounted butter is also correspondingly of poor quality. As it turns out, these are sold-out stocks from the state material reserves of a number of European countries. There, once in a while, it is simply necessary to change the butter, and Czech shops are happy to take the old one and sell it quickly.

Beware of cheap imported butters, where there is a higher probability that such a product was also stored in freezers,” food expert Michaela Smolková drew attention to the problem for the daily Blesk. Indeed, such butter is stored for a year or more in the freezer, then thawed and goes to stores.

At the same time, people usually have no idea what they are actually buying. Of course, the chains do not point out the difference. However, in terms of category, it is not traditional fresh butter that people would like to buy, but table butter. It is characterized by the fact that it can be stored for up to two years in the freezer.

They’re peddling bad butter here

But how is it different from fresh butter, which must be sold within twenty days from the date of production. Surely everyone understands that these are two products that are difficult to compare.

As experts point out, such table butter is not very suitable for normal consumption, for example for spreading bread or use in a cold kitchen. It can be suitable, for example, for baking, but only if it is no longer rancid.

In Western countries, however, it is usual for such butter not to be sold at all, but for example to be taken by large bakeries, restaurants and other factories, where it is processed in bulk. Nevertheless, it is cheerfully offered to our customers as a quality product.
