The plane did not catch fire after the emergency landing.

The emergency landing of the Boeing 767-300 cargo plane took place yesterday at the airport in Istanbul. During the first landing attempt, the pilots found that they were unable to extend the nose gear and had to request an emergency landing with the assistance of fire and rescue personnel.

The less than ten-year-old plane, registration N110FE, belongs to FedEx and flew from Paris to Istanbul. The course of the entire flight can be followed on Flightradar24.com.

The crew aborted the landing after realizing that the nose landing gear had not extended. The second approach was followed by a fly-by over the runway, during which ground personnel confirmed to the pilots that the landing gear had not actually extended. An emergency landing occurred after the third approach. In the video, the landing is visible only on the rear landing gear. The front part scraped the runway while braking, but fortunately the plane did not catch fire. The pilots evacuated the plane without injury.

The causes of the incident are unknown and will be subject to investigation. Turkey’s Ministry of Transport said the incident was caused by a failure of hydraulic equipment.
