Approximately 1.7 million Czechs, i.e. roughly 20 percent of the Czech population, spend more time on their mobile phones than they would like or need. They have a so-called low digital health index, which indicates how technology affects their lives in the long term. It emerged from a survey by the NMS Market Research agency for the O2 operator among 1,900 respondents.
At the same time, younger generations are more affected. People under the age of 34 spend an average of more than six hours a day on their mobile phones, which is three hours and 20 minutes longer than the ideal time.
“In the online space, people drive away boredom, look for relaxation and mood improvement, but none of this often comes. After a long time on the phone, almost 87 percent of these people suffer from feelings of nervousness and stress,” said Tereza Friedrichová from NMS Market Research.
People with a high digital health index, of whom there are about 55 percent, spend an average of two hours a day on their mobile phones and are satisfied with this amount of time. They use technology effectively and don’t let themselves be controlled by it, Friedrich added.
Those interested can test their digital health in the Moje O2 application or on the digitalzdravi.cz website. There they will find a set of questions that will guide them through the fundamental areas of digital health. After filling in, they will find out how they are compared to the average of the Czech population and their peers. At the same time, they can look at simple tips on how to strengthen their digital health and what to do to have technology in their power.
