After some time on the X network, Musk once again boasted about an unexpected news. According to his last post, the Tesla Model Y (these are units manufactured in recent months) has a realistically higher range, but it is unlocked only after paying a fee. Specifically, we are talking about increasing the range by about 60 to 100 km, while the price for this improvement should be somewhere between 42 and 56 thousand crowns (converted and after adding tax).

Tesla is quite well known for its over-the-air updates, but this is news that has many people out of their seats. On the other hand, it must be recognized that this has not happened for the first time. Even for the Model S 70 with a 70kWh battery, it was possible to pay an extra amount of just under 90,000 and get the real battery capacity, which was 75 kWh. The range increased by 27 km. The news comes in connection with the launch of the new Tesla Y in a version with rear-wheel drive and increased range, which is about 56,000 more expensive.

Remote unlocking of additional equipment as a new trend?

But some customers have already felt the dark side of remote software updates. There is a case where the autopilot was disabled for a new Tesla owner because he bought the car from a third party and did not go directly to Tesla. Musk responded to the complaints by saying that they too have to pay the bills. In any case, additional equipment with remote unlocking is becoming a trend among other car manufacturers as well. At BMW, for example, heated seats were handled in this way, Mercedes will sell you better acceleration, and Polestar will add more horses under the hood for extra money. In this context, even the Tesla range increase does not sound so sensational.
