The production version of the new Honda Prelude could have the e:HEV hybrid system from the Civic. Potential kinship with the Czech car of 2023 excludes a manual transmission, but suggests good driving characteristics.
Last fall, Honda stunned the world with a concept that should be the spiritual successor to the once popular Prelude coupe. It was speculated that such a car would run on electricity, but now there is a report that it could have the same hybrid powertrain as the Civic model. It was the Car of the Year in the Czech Republic in 2023.
This is according to a report from the Japanese website BestCarWeb, and it also states that the car will, like its predecessors, have front-wheel drive. The Civic’s engine with the designation e:HEV in that successful hatchback offers 135 kW (184 hp), but it can allegedly give even more – up to 154 kW (210 hp). This is significantly less than what the Subaru BRZ/Toyota GR86 duo offers, for example.
Of course, with front-wheel drive, the Prelude wouldn’t be direct competition for them anyway, despite very similar dimensions. These should be 430 cm in length, 179 cm in width and 130 cm in height; the prelude wheelbase should be 2,575 mm.
Honda has already confirmed that the production version of the Prelude concept will be produced with both right-hand and left-hand drive. It will very likely be imported to the US and we have to hope to see it in Europe as well.
