The first reactions to George Miller’s new film have already appeared on social networks, even before its world premiere, which will take place this month at the Cannes Film Festival. And as it seems, the director of Furious Road still has a piece of action genius in him after all, because Furiosa literally thrilled the first wave of critics, and again mainly from the point of view of action. Of course, the film isn’t on Rotten yet, but you can read the first few screams below.
“Really, really f*cking good,” wrote David Ehrlich of IndieWire, for example. “It works quite differently than Furious Road (which will probably disappoint some people), but it also makes the film richer while still managing to create its own legacy.” he added.
For a change, Simon Thompson of Forbes and others praised how immersive the film is. “At times it felt like the film was going beyond the limits of the IMAX screen and climbing out – that’s how GIANT it is – but at other times it’s deeply emotional and intimate.”
“A wild and relentlessly flowing epic that expands on the story of Furiosa and the Wasteland while delivering the craziest chases, bombastic characters and overall stunning cinematography,” Fandango’s Erik Davis wrote afterward. “Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth are unrecognizable here, and both deliver incredible stuff. One sequence literally took my breath away – an instant classic.” It must be added that the last mentioned has a personal interest in selling hype to the audience, but take more or less all these internet reactions with a grain of salt.
The reason is also the fact that no one has been able to comment critically on the film so far, which means that there is a lack of opposition and any criticism. On the other hand, it’s nice to hear the first hints that Furiosa might reach the level of Furious Road, that is, the uncompromising blockbuster that has been a little lacking on the big screens in recent years. In any case, the film opens in theaters on May 23rd, so until then, be sure to expect loads of other reactions, impressions and, finally, reviews.
