Weather | Experts in shock from the temperature: In the Czech Republic there will be an absolute extreme for April

--

“Compared to yesterday (Monday) morning, Tuesday’s temperatures in our territory are noticeably lower. They are most often between nine and five degrees Celsius,” meteorologists said. They added that it was coldest around 05:00 in the Giant Mountains at Luční bouda and Labská bouda, where they measured minus one degree Celsius and minus 0.3 degree Celsius, respectively.

“Because colder and moist air from the west will flow towards us behind the cold front in the next few days, temperatures will be lower during the day as well. Even so, they will be about four degrees Celsius higher than normal for this time of year.” informed the ČHMÚ.

In the Czech Republic, temperature records were set at many stations in the previous days, meteorologists expected the first day of summer as early as the weekend at the end of March. In the end, however, the scattered Saharan dust significantly affected the temperatures. On Saturday, temperatures in a number of places were two to four degrees Celsius lower than predicted by numerical models, the ČHMÚ reported.

Windstorm in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands

A strong wind will blow in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands today. Impacts reach speeds of up to 70 km/h. They can break trees and branches, even minor damage to buildings and complications in traffic are not excluded. The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) has issued a warning with a low degree of danger.

The warning applies to Vysočina and Znojmo from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. today. “The wind will ease in the evening,” meteorologists said.

People should secure windows and doors, remove or secure loose objects, and secure greenhouses, for example. Extra care should be taken when moving outdoors and when driving vehicles. In the mountains, people should limit their hikes.

Up to 27 degrees Celsius on Sunday

This year, the Czech Republic experienced the first summer day, when the thermometer must show at least 25 degrees, on Easter Monday. The warmest was in Karviná with 26 degrees Celsius. New records appeared at about two-fifths of the more than 160 weather stations, which measure temperatures for 30 or more years. In addition to Karviná, the temperature record for April 1 was also broken today, for example, in České Budějovice, where they measured 25.7 degrees, or in Bohumín with a temperature of 25.3 degrees.

The past holidays were above average warm, and next weekend will be even warmer, according to meteorologists. “Weekend temperatures will hover around 25 degrees Celsius, Sunday could reach up to 27 degrees locally, which is quite extreme for early April,” stated the CHMÚ.

Last year, meteorologists recorded the first day of summer on May 5, but then it was at the only station in the country, in Pilsen – Bolevec, where it was 25.2 degrees. People could enjoy the next summer days only in the second half of May. In 2022, the first day of summer also fell on May, but a year earlier it was on March 31 and the previous two years at the end of April.
