The Tortured Poets Department’s 31-track album was released on April 19. The streaming service Spotify has announced after four days that it has collected over a billion plays worldwide.

In the first day alone, the platform recorded a record of more than 300 million plays. The album broke similar records on Apple Music and Amazon Music services.

At 34, Taylor Swift is arguably the biggest pop star alive today. In recent months, she has been enjoying a highly successful period, during which she launched a spectacular concert tour, was named Person of the Year by Time magazine, and made the list of Forbes magazine’s dollar billionaires for the first time.

Her new album has sold the equivalent of 2.6 million units across various media, according to analytics firm Luminate. The vast majority of this sum is represented by sales of the album in digital form, on CD or gramophone records. 859,000 vinyls have already been sold, which is the highest number in years, according to AP.
