Drivers cannot yet get from Prague to Chomutov or Karlovy Vary by highway. Both are under construction

In the Central Bohemian region, road workers are currently building three sections with a length of about 20 kilometers. One, approximately six kilometers long, is to be completed and put into operation this year, and two more next year.

Road workers want to start building the connecting section in the Ústí Region from St. Petersburg to Lubenec in Lounsk this year. They have a building permit for it. Moreover, the lowest bid in the tender for the construction of these 12 kilometers is about a third lower than the originally expected amount. In two years, the highway from Prague would end at Lubnec.

Preparations are also continuing for the construction of four sections in the Karlovy Vary region, a total of about 30 kilometers from Lubnec to Karlovy Vary. They are planning to start construction there for three sections next year, and for one in two years. The entire highway is planned to be operational in 2028.

Work is also underway on the construction of the D7 highway

In the Ústí Region, work is also currently underway on the section of the D7 highway near Chlumčan u Loun, where two lanes towards Chomutov need to be built and connected to the already completed Loun ring road. The section could go into operation roughly in the middle of the year.

The construction of three sections of the D7 highway in the Central Bohemia region was described last week by Radek Mátl, CEO of the ŘSD, in the Podcast with the CEO program: “We would like to start all three sections in the Central Bohemia region. Drivers who drive past the construction of the D7 highway can see the ongoing work on archaeological surveys – we should complete these during this year and at the same time start the construction work itself.”

After that, there will be one more, last section – about five kilometers around Postoloprt. If the preparation is without complications, construction will begin there in 2026. In 2029, the entire highway between Prague and Chomutov could then be in operation.
