Exactly 403 offenses were detected by the police during a large-scale traffic safety operation that took place on the roads in the Pilsen region during the Easter holidays. In total, the police checked 1144 cars. The most frequent offense was failure to observe the maximum permitted speed, which drivers violated in 175 cases.
In addition to speed control, the police officers also focused on compliance with the ban on the consumption of alcohol and other addictive substances, the way of driving, the use of seat belts and restraint systems, and last but not least, the technical condition of the vehicles. “A total of 79 drivers used a vehicle in unsatisfactory technical condition to drive, 17 drivers had a mobile phone in their hand while driving, and in 15 cases the police fined them for not using seat belts or a restraint system. Four motorists then committed the offense of not giving the right of way,” the police spokeswoman informed Iva Vršecká.
At each check, drivers must submit to a breathalyzer test, and in three cases the test was positive. Three drivers tested positive for addictive substances. The police officers also discovered one criminal who was driving a vehicle, although he had a valid driving ban imposed on him.
“In the period from Friday, March 29, 2024 to Monday, April 1, unfortunately, there were also 41 serious traffic accidents in which one person was killed, four were seriously injured and 23 suffered minor injuries. Five drivers who were involved in a traffic accident were found by the police to have consumed alcohol before driving,” spokeswoman Vršecká added.
