Czech Republic as a bridge. Paroubek called the press and presented the plan

--

According to the former prime minister, the Czech Republic should bet on the role of a bridge between the West and the East in foreign policy. He added that he does not mean neutrality, because leaving NATO and the EU would make no sense.

“The western orientation of the republic is definitely yes, but we should also build relations with eastern powers such as China or India. It is difficult to talk about correct relations with Russia at this moment, but I can imagine that after the end of the war in Ukraine, after the conclusion of a permanent and sustainable peace, it is possible to return to Czech-Russian relations,” Paroubek is clear.

He cited data from the World Bank, which states that Russia’s economy ranks first in terms of purchasing power parity. “You will see in the table that China is first, the United States is second, India is third, Japan is fourth and Russia is fifth. If NATO planners estimated Russia’s economic strength as a semi-backward feudal economy, they miscalculated. The Russian economy is strong and shows great capacity for regeneration.

“We saw this already after the imposition of sanctions based on the annexation of Crimea. The Russians then invested in agriculture, and today they are able to export 50-60 million tons of wheat in a typical year, roughly the same amount that the former Soviet Union imported. We see that the Russians are capable of being the grain of the world, and if we add the performance of Ukraine and Kazakhstan to that, it is a tremendous performance of the post-Soviet republics,” he pointed out.

According to him, Russia’s economic strength and ability to regenerate prove that it is difficult for Western countries to defeat or damage Putin economically. “The West thought that sanctions would destroy Russia and bring Tsar Putin to his knees. We see how naive it was,” said the chairman of the ČSSD.

“There is now a threat of a breakthrough of the front in Ukraine, because it is very problematic for the Ukrainians to maintain it. Even if they were supplied with ammunition and material, they would be short of men. Their mobilization has not yet been successful, many Ukrainian young men do not want to die, and many are also in our country and in other countries. From our point of view, it is high time to start peace negotiations instead of arms deliveries. The current Czech government is not capable of this, and neither is the European Commission. That’s obvious. That is why it is necessary that there should be a change in the European elections. “Peace negotiations should begin as soon as possible, before there is a front breakthrough and the Russians take more territory,” warns Jiří Paroubek.

According to him, the Czech government refuses to see the problem realistically in this matter. “He cares more about Ukraine than domestic problems. Every reasonable person must see this. How many human lives were needlessly wasted there. In addition, also huge material values, which will be difficult to build again, and the reconstruction of Ukraine will be very difficult. That’s why she should start as soon as possible,” she says.

He draws attention to the disparity in the view of a number of Western countries towards the war in Ukraine and Gaza, where while Ukraine is supported almost unconditionally, Israel is encouraged to stop defending itself. “It is a double standard policy that is usually practiced in the West,” added Jiří Paroubek.
