CHOMUTOVSKO – Due to repeated setting of fires, he ended up in custody.
A 63-year-old man from Jirkov, who repeatedly started a fire this month, allegedly to keep warm, ended up in a remand prison. First, the fire started in Jirkov right next to the wall of the company building in Chomutovská street. The thick black smoke was noticed by the Jirk police officers, who managed to put out the fire, identified the man present and called the police to the scene, who took over the matter. The damage caused by damage to the wall of the building was preliminarily estimated at 10,000 crowns.
A week later, the aforementioned man, who does not have a permanent residence and sleeps outside, again decided to warm himself by the fire. As in the first case, under the influence of two liters of drunk wine, he set fire to a plastic waste container behind one of the buildings in the Otvice Business Zone before ten in the evening. The fire spread to the wall of the adjacent building and damaged nearby guardrails. The total damage was preliminarily calculated at 21 thousand crowns. Police and firefighters were called to the scene. The man who caused it all stood nearby, sipping boxed wine. The police officers recognized the person in question and it was clear that this was the same man as in the previous case. He breathed in almost three parts per million and later stated as the reason for starting the fires that he was cold and wanted to warm up. However, the fire got out of his control every time. The police arrested the suspect and placed him in a cell.
A police investigator charged the man with committing the continuing offense of damaging another’s property. Subsequently, he filed a motion with the public prosecutor to have the accused taken into custody. There is a danger that the man, who was even recently convicted for similar behavior, would repeat the fire again. The court later decided to place the accused in a remand prison.
