The viaduct, nicknamed the truck guillotine, was once again in office

Today at one o’clock in the afternoon, another truck got stuck in 5. května street in Klatovy under the well-known railway viaduct, where there have been countless similar accidents, which is why the locals call it the Klato truck guillotine.

This time, the MAN truck intended for the transport of containers would have passed through the place without any problems, but its driver apparently forgot the raised hydraulic arm, which literally got stuck in the structure of the bridge.

An injury was reported from the scene, so all emergency services went to the accident. The road was closed, as was traffic on the railway line running along the viaduct, firefighters secured the scene of the accident and railway firefighters began checking the bridge structure for damage that would endanger train traffic. According to information from the scene, the driver suffered only a few abrasions and refused medical treatment.

The police are investigating the circumstances of the accident at the scene, we will add their statement as soon as it becomes available.

“The driver, born in 1983, was driving a MAN truck in the direction from the village of Malá Víska to the center of the city of Klatovy, and the hydraulic arm located on the vehicle caught a bridge structure, resulting in partial damage to it. Alcohol was ruled out by a breath test on the driver. The driver was taken to a medical facility for treatment.
Road traffic is currently suspended at the scene of the accident, trains will run at a limited, i.e. reduced, speed. The damage to the vehicle was preliminarily estimated at over a million crowns, the bridge structure has not yet been calculated at this time.” the police spokesperson added to the accident.

On Tuesday, January 30, one hour ago in the afternoon, a very serious traffic accident occurred in Klatovy Luby, namely a collision between a truck and a viaduct.
Very serious injuries to the crew of the oncoming car were reported from the scene. Therefore, all emergency services immediately went to the accident.

It is a viaduct that the locals have an unflattering nickname for “Klatov truck guillotine”because truck crashes are very common here.
Unfortunately, this time it wasn’t just the truck, but also an innocent person. A passenger died in an oncoming car that was hit by debris from a semi-trailer.

“The paramedics on the spot treated the driver, born in 1958, who suffered multiple minor injuries to the upper body and transported him to a hospital in Klatovy for further treatment. The passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries and our doctor pronounced him dead on the spot.” added the information of the spokesperson of the rescuers.

Firefighters secured the scene of the accident, carried out fire prevention measures and, after logging the scene of the accident, cleared the wreckage of the truck trailer.

In the meantime, the coroner and the criminal police team arrived at the scene, which took over the investigation of the incident.
