Sweden – Czech Republic 2:3 sn. Eighteen took after the beating and has a valuable win

--

“This is a very important win for us. We wanted to beat them for the first time this season and we succeeded. We told the guys that now is the best time to give it back. Tomorrow we have to confirm it with Kazakhstan and then we would go to the quarterfinals from second place, which would be a good starting position for us,” Cermák told the Czech Hockey website.

In the 13th minute, the Czechs rejoiced at the goal in the power play when Eliasson was sent off, but prematurely. Poletín got the puck into the goal with his ice skates and according to the video referees Burzminski and Druseiks kept the score scoreless.

With Eliasson’s next penalty at 25:58, the Czech team took the lead. Sikora opened the scoring with a shot from the left circle. In the 33rd minute, Titlbach offered the puck to Jech, who made it 2-0 from a position between the circles.

Immediately after Wallenius’ pass, Sterner had a great opportunity to cut down, but Milota managed to move and hit the left concrete. Fernström and Zetterberg did not convert other chances, but 28 seconds before the end of the second period, Eklund already corrected the situation, converting Lindberg’s pass from close range.

At 48:32, Curran was fouled while escaping, but Benák did not convert the ordered penalty shot. The Swedes equalized in the 54th minute when Mrtka was sent off, when Eriksson hit the near post from the right circle after Zetterberg’s pass.

In overtime, Benák had the best chance, but the Swedish goalkeeper made a save. All three Czech executors Sikora, Titlbach and Benák succeeded in raids, only Eriksson succeeded for the Northerners.

“The Swedes were significantly better for about the first ten minutes. We had a bad start to the match, we didn’t have time to skate. It didn’t get better until about the tenth minute. Then in the third period we had to decide it, we made several separate raids. The match didn’t even have to go to overtime,” said Čermák.

He doesn’t expect anything easy against the newcomer from Kazakhstan, who hasn’t scored in two games so far. “We saw that their matches only broke at the end. Today we had a difficult match, the Kazakhs had a day off, so it will definitely not be easy,” added the coach.
