The company is to proceed in the form of design and build (design & build), i.e. together with the construction works, it is also to provide the project.

“It is an important step towards the implementation of this construction, which has the potential to affect the economy of the Czech Republic, because it can become a center of technological innovation for the whole of Europe,” defended the procedure by the mayor’s deputy Petr Hlaváček (for STAN).

The competition was contested at the antimonopoly office, but the situation has changed according to councilor Zdenek Kovářík (ODS).

“More precisely, the only submission to the Office for the Protection of Economic Competition has already been withdrawn,” said Kovářík.

The contractor will have to remove the degraded parts of the approximately 10-year-old torso and complete the construction work according to the new project in 2026. According to the municipality, the torso of the building will be reconstructed and equipped for the needs of the space agency. The aim is to build a space-themed educational center here as well.

The EUSPA agency itself brings together, among other things, the operation management of EU space programs and provides European satellite navigation services.

Originally, a large part of the Nová Palmovka Center was to house the Prague 8 town hall, and its representatives also decided on the construction before the 2014 elections, stating that the costs would amount to 1.2 billion crowns. Many disputes and struggles followed, some debts for hundreds of millions of crowns were paid by Prague and the project was taken over.
