For the first time, residents of Prague 18 will have the opportunity to decide where part of the money from the budget of this district in the north of the metropolis will go. Starting tomorrow, they can vote themselves on where public money will go. This is called participatory budgeting. One million crowns is earmarked for the ideas of the citizens of Letňany.

“In the rules agreed by the council, we have everything that can be purchased, for example. Whether it is a park bench or an insect hotel. The only condition is that it does not require a zoning decision or even a construction procedure,” the councilor of the Prague Municipal District told Praha Television 18 Martin Halama.

The highest value of an individual project or idea is one hundred thousand crowns.

“The fundamental condition is that the project must be located on the land of the municipal district, that is, owned by the City of Prague, and entrusted to the Municipal District of Prague 18. If I were to be specific, it is not a forest park, we do not include it in this project, but perhaps corso to the forest park, yes,” said the councilor of Prague 18.

In the pilot year, the participatory budget cannot be used on any of the private plots.

“Citizens will be able to submit the projects and vote on the “tvorime18.cz” website, where there is a web interface and where the system will guide them intuitively, both when submitting and then when voting”, emphasized Martin Halama.

The participatory budgeting website launches on Labor Day, May 1.

“And voting will be allowed during August so that we can announce the results in January and proceed with the implementation,” revealed the councilor.

Participatory budgeting is nothing new in the capital or its surroundings.

“Some Prague districts have these budgets, other cities also have them, so we were inspired elsewhere and the lady from the “Network of Healthy Cities” had me and she helped us with that.

In addition, the budget of Prague 18 orders that the ideas and wishes of the residents from the participatory budget be realized by the end of this year at the latest. Ladislav Jakub, TV Prague.
