The police already know who waved a Nazi flag from a convoy of vintage cars in the center of Pilsen on Sunday. “We managed to track down the actors of the event in a very short time. With the fact that they are Czech citizens,” police spokeswoman Michaela Raindlová confirmed to iROZHLAS.cz and Radiožurnál. “We have initiated criminal proceedings,” the spokeswoman added, specifying that it was two people and that they face up to three years in prison for committing this illegal act.

“The unlawful conduct of these two Czech citizens was qualified as suspicion of committing the offense of showing sympathy for a movement aimed at suppressing human rights and freedoms,” the police said on the X social network.

The spokeswoman for the Pilsen police, Michaela Raindlová, added to iROZHLAS.cz that everything is still subject to further investigation. She also clarified that the fact that the police have initiated criminal prosecution does not mean that both actors are already under criminal prosecution. “For now, there are people under so-called status,” the spokeswoman explained.

The incident happened in the Freedom Convoy full of historic vehicles at the Freedom Celebrations in Pilsen. An American truck from the Second World War drove through it, the female passenger holding an American flag. But at one point the driver handed her a Nazi flag and she waved it four times towards the onlookers.

The motive that led the couple to commit the crime is currently being investigated by the police. The incident has already been condemned, for example, by the mayor of Pilsen, Roman Zarzycký (ANO). “Such behavior is completely unacceptable and should be strongly condemned. The police are already investigating the case. I believe that the perpetrators will be punished according to the applicable legislation,” he said.
