ZLÍN – There are only a few months left until the start of construction of the new Faculty of Technology building at the bus station in Zlín. It will grow on the site of a demolished building that was already in a state of disrepair. The construction will be supported by a subsidy of 200 million crowns, which has now been approved by the regional representatives.

In connection with the provided subsidy, the representatives concluded a contract with the university. It is committed to creating at least 400 new study places in 7 new study programs. “In March, the rector and I signed an agreement on long-term cooperation. The contract, which we approved today at the council, builds on it and defines the first concrete steps. These are mainly new study programs, the creation of which we initiated at the university ourselves, because they are very important for the further development of the region. Part of them will be taught in the new building of the Faculty of Technology, the construction of which we supported today with 200 million,” outlined governor Radim Holiš.

“In the contract, the university further undertakes, for example, that the newly constructed building of the Faculty of Technology will be used by at least 1,200 students every year, that TUB will ensure the accreditation of 12 study programs in the English language, or that the Faculty of Technology will organize 500 lectures between 2025 and 2030 for basic and secondary schools and 100 lectures for the public,” added Deputy Governor David Vychytil. It is also expected that between 2025 and 2030, TUB will provide at least 285 internships for its students abroad as well as internships for foreign students in Zlín at the Faculty of Technology.

The construction of the new faculty building, which should begin this September and be completed in 2026, will ensure the conditions for teaching bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral study programs in fields focused on chemistry, engineering, progressive materials and technologies, food and healthcare. The total costs of the project, including the supply of technological equipment and interiors, are calculated at 650 million crowns.
