The Czech-Moravian Confederation of Trade Unions (ČMKOS) called a protest action in Prague on May 21. This time, the unions will demonstrate against the pension reform and the changes that the government is planning in the labor code. The president of the Trade and Tourism Association of the Czech Republic, Tomáš Prouza, laughed at the planned protest due to the form of the previous one.

ČMKOS called another protest in May against the changes planned by the government. They have a problem with pension reform or, for example, with the cancellation of guaranteed wages.

“What do you think? How many communists and pro-Russian brooms will be on stage this time?’ https://twitter.com/ProuzaTomas/status/1787064395886928284 to call the protest, the president of the Trade and Tourism Association of the Czech Republic, Tomáš Prouza.

He recalled the trade union actions from last year. The trade unions caught criticism for the event organized last November, mainly because of the composition of the speakers who appeared on the stage and also because the original intention of the protest, which was supposed to follow the teachers’ strike, was not followed. For example, the teachers’ professional association Učitelská platforma opposed the union’s action on Malostranské náměstí na social network X sharply defined.

According to them, the trade unionists misused the original intention of the teachers’ strike and associated it with people who are a threat to democracy and should never have participated in the demonstration. People from the disinformation scene appeared on stage. For example, Daniel Sterzik, known as the blogger Vidlák, who became famous for his statement that the ČEZ company disconnects electricity from grandmothers and leaves them to die of cold, or the misinformer Dufek.

In any case, ČMKOS will protest against raising the retirement age in May, which it considers unacceptable. According to the head of the legal department and pension expert of the ČMKOS, Vít Samek, the Czech Republic does not follow the European goal in the field of pensions and focuses only on financial sustainability, not on the social adequacy of benefits. According to him, the reason is lower taxes in the Czech Republic than in some EU countries. “We have no chance to implement reforms here that would be friendly to the people, and we have few resources for public funds,” said Samek in the Otázky Václav Moravec program on Czech television.

The unions want to further define themselves against the cancellation of guaranteed wages. According to the amendment to the code, the guaranteed wage, which represents the lowest earnings according to the expertise, demandingness and responsibility of the work and which is paid in eight stages from the minimum wage to its double, should be abolished in companies from January. She should remain in the public sector, but in four steps from the minimum wage to 1.6 times it.

At the same time, he does not agree with dismissal from employment without giving reasons, which was proposed by the National Economic Council of the Government. According to the trade unions, this is a measure that will not help anyone, but on the contrary can harm many. Minister of Labor Marian Jurečka (KDU-ČSL) has, however, repeated several times that there will be no provision in the upcoming amendment to the Labor Code and it is not an issue for him.
