Union representatives left the tripartite meeting | iRADIO

--

Trade unionists left Monday’s tripartite meeting prematurely, said the chairman of the Czech-Moravian Confederation of Trade Unions, Josef Středula. He connected the move with the statements of a member of the ODS executive board and ex-minister of the environment in the former Nečas government, Pavel Drobil, who said at the April ODS congress that unions are not partners, but enemies. Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Marian Jurečka (KDU-ČSL) considers the departure of the trade unions from tripartite childish and incomprehensible.

Středula previously said that at the meeting of the tripartite presidency, trade unionists will ask Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) to distance himself from Drobil’s words and to make it clear that social dialogue is important for this government.

According to Jurečka, the representatives of trade unionists left the meeting after the prime minister stated that he did not understand some of their statements, for example the call of the chairman of the Kovo Trade Union (OS KOVO) Roman Ďurč for people to use the European elections to express their protest against the government coalition and vote for social democracy or YES.

Based on this debate, for reasons incomprehensible to me, the delegation of trade union representatives left the meetingthe tripartite left, only the chairman Josef Středula remained there. I consider this departure childish, said Jurečka. According to him, there was no reason for such a procedure. It is a demonstration of their diplomacy skills, their negotiation skills, stated Jurečka to the trade unionists.

Another participant in Monday’s meeting, Minister of Agriculture Marek Výborný (KDU-ČSL), also called the unionists’ reaction incomprehensible. He believes that the employee representative will be able to return to the negotiating table, he said. The departure of the trade unionists from the tripartite also shocked the representatives of the employers.

The head of the Union of Industry and Transport of the Czech Republic, Petr Rafaj, stated that he considers social dialogue to be key. Therefore, he does not understand why the trade unionists got up and left at the end of the meeting, which had previously taken place in a completely normal working atmosphere.

At the Congress of Citizen Democrats in Ostrava, Drobil spoke about the dysfunctional labor market and the Labor Code, which he described as Bolshevik. He mentioned the need for adjustments with release of notices, extension of trial periods or restoration of contractual freedom. He stated that the trade unions “are not a partner, but an enemy, which is very comfortable with the current crazy state, when the master in the workplace and in the company is not the one who provides and gives work”.

On Monday, representatives of the government, trade unions and employers were supposed to discuss the situation in agriculture and the setting of dual education in the Czech Republic. The tripartite also wanted to set up its environment team, according to the agenda.

With 31 unions and about 270,000 members, the Czech-Moravian Confederation of Trade Unions is the largest trade union headquarters in the country.
